The Program
The Mission Viejo Activities Committee has
established a scholarship program to help finance
higher education for High School students who are
dedicated in the spirit of volunteerism and to the
enhancement of our community.
The program is managed by the Scholarship
Committee of the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.
Recipients are selected without regard to race,
color creed, religion, sex, disability, or national
origin.
The Mission Viejo Activities Committee will award
five (5), $1,000 scholarships annually. Awards are
heavily based on Community Service. Qualified
students attending military academies are eligible
for an honorarium award at the annual $200 minimum
level only. Awards may be used for undergraduate or
technical school study only.
Eligibility
Applicants must be -
- Current high school seniors planning to enroll
for the first time in a full –time course of study
at an accredited (by one of the six regional
accrediting associations) U.S. four year college
or university, or a baccalaureate program at a
two-year college in fall following graduation or a
technical/trade school certificate program.
- Able to document consistent community service
hours.
Application Procedure
Interested students must complete the enclosed
application and submit it along with a complete high
school transcript to MVAC postmarked no later than
April 1.
Applicants are responsible for gathering and
submitting all necessary information. Because
applicants are evaluated on the information
supplied, they are advised to answer every question
as completely as possible. Community Service hours
will be verified and you must provide telephone
number and contact information where requested.
All information received is considered
confidential and is reviewed only by the Scholarship
Committee.
Not all applicants to the program will be selected
as recipients.
Recipient Selection
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of
community service, academic record, potential to
succeed, leadership, participation in school, work
experience, statement of educational and career
goals, an outside appraisal and a personal
interview.
Payment of Awards
Scholarship payments are authorized by the Executive
Board on recommendation by the Scholarship Committee
and are processed by the Mission Viejo Activities
Committee. Payments are made in two equal
installments in August and December. Checks are
mailed to each recipient’ s home address and are
made payable jointly to the student and the school
and must be endorsed by both.
Renewal of Award
Mission Viejo Activities Committee scholarships are
not renewable.
Obligations
Recipients have no obligation to the Mission Viejo
Activities Committee. They are, however, required to
supply the Mission Viejo Activities Committee with
current transcripts and to notify the MVAC office of
any changes of address, school enrollment or other
