Scholarship applications available at local high school guidance offices, City Hall, the Library and Community Center.

The Program

  • The Mission Viejo Activities Committee has established a scholarship program to help finance higher education for children in our community.

  • The program is managed by the Scholarship Committee of the Mission Viejo Activities Committee. Recipients are selected without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, disability, or national origin.

  • The number of scholarships awarded is dependent on the number of applications received.  Awards are $1000 annually and may be used for undergraduate or technical school study only.

Eligibility
Applicants must be-

  • Current high school seniors planning to enroll for the first time in a full-time course of study at an accredited (by one of six regional accrediting associations) U.S., four-year college or university, a baccalaureate program at a two-year college in Fall 2004 or a technical/trade school certificate program.

  • Able to document consistent community service hours

Application Procedure

  • Interested students must complete application and submit it along with a complete high school transcript to MVAC postmarked no later than March 15.

  • Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information.  Because applicants are evaluated on the information supplied, they are advised to answer every question as completely as possible.

  • All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by the Scholarship Committee.

Recipient Selection

  • Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of community service, academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school, work experience, statement of educational and career goals, unusual personal or family circumstances, an outside appraisal, and a personal interview.

  • All applicants will be notified in April.

  • Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Awards

  • Scholarship payments are authorized by the Executive Board on recommendation by the Scholarship Committee and processed by the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.  Payments are made in two equal installments on August 15 and December 30.  Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are made payable jointly to the student and the school and must be endorsed by both.

Renewal of Award

  • Mission Viejo Activities Committee scholarships are potentially renewable for an additional three years or until a Bachelor's Degree is earned, whichever comes first.  Renewal is contingent upon academic performance in a full-time course of study, continued community service and continuation of the program by the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.  A new application must be submitted each year with documentation.

Obligations

  • Recipients have no obligation to the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.  They are, however, required to supply MVAC with current transcripts and to notify MVAC of any changes of address, school enrollment, or other relevant information.
